Walk Lightly

One day I met an old-timer,
He was standing by the bay.
We stopped and spun a yarn or two,
’bout places far away.
He said, “I’ve seen the seven wonders
And I’ve sailed some heavy seas.”
His words were like a painting
And I felt them carry me,
And I cold almost see it when he said,

“Such a beautiful sight, such a beautiful sight,
It wouldn’t be right to let it go.
Walk lightly, walk lightly, walk lightly.”

“I’ve watched the sunset on Tahiti,
Hear the thunder of Victoria Falls,
Threw a coin in Trevi Fountain,
Saw the moonrise over Taj Mahal,
Saw the snowfields in the Rockies
And the wheatfields of the Ukraine,
Crossed the outback down under
And felt the Amazon jungle rain.”
And I could almost see it when he said,

“Such a beautiful sight…” etc

Then I asked him what he remembered most
And he stopped and thought a while.
He said, “It’s the children’s faces everywhere,”
And he broke into a smile,
And I could almost see them when he said,

“Such a beautiful sight…” etc

Walk lightly, walk lightly,
Such a beautiful sight, walk lightly,
Such a beautiful sight,
It wouldn’t be right to let it go.
Walk lightly.”

Mozart Rocks

You say you like music of a classical kind
But you cover your ears when I play mine.
What now is classic, then was rock ‘n’ roll.
Today Mozart would’ve been a rock star
With headphones on and a stereo in his car.
He was a new wave writer doin’ classical rock ‘n’ roll.

I said, don’t tell me I ain’t got no class.
I’m workin’ on a rock ‘n’ roll symphony,
I know Mozart would’ve been proud of me.

Before he hit the scene, people’s musical roots
Were Gregorian chants and flutes and lutes.
He rocked the world with his kind of rock ‘n’ roll.
Now the kinds and queens all said, “Forsooth,
This dude’s all right for just a youth,”
And their feet started tappin’
And they called it royal rock ‘n’ roll.

Don’t tell me I ain’t got no class.
I’m workin’ on a rock ‘n’ roll symphony,
I know Mozart would’ve been proud of me.

He did palace gigs and they sat entranced
In their powdered wigs and skin-tight pants.
You can’t tell me he wasn’t writin’ rock ‘n’ roll.

Now some folks say that rock is crass
But it started back then and it’s gonna last,
So dig ol’ Moz’ ’cause he dug rock ‘n’ roll.

Don’t tell me I ain’t got no class.
I’m workin’ on a rock ‘n’ roll symphony,
I know Mozart would’ve been proud of me.

Don’t tell me I ain’t got no class.
I dig ol’ Moz’ ’cause he dug rock ‘n’ roll.
You gotta dig ol’ Moz’ ’cause he dug rock ‘n’ roll.

My Song

This ain’t no time to be singin’
With things the way they are.
This ain’t no time to be dancin’,
How can dancin’ get you very far.
Let’s not be unrealistic
About what a song can do.
If you get too idealistic,
Someone’s gonna criticize you.

My song may not change the world,
My dance may not improve it,
But I’m not gonna stand around
When I’ve got a chance, got a chance,
Got a chance to move it.

There’s classical, jazz and there’s country,
Reggae, rhythm and rock.
Don’t know where the music got started,
I just hope it never stops.

My song may not change the world…etc.

Stand Together

Stand, stand, stand, let’s stand together.
Stand, stand, stand, let’s stand together.

You can stand in the back
Or you can stand on the side,
You can stand on your principles
Or stand on your pride.
But no-one’s gonna stand for long any more
If we don’t stand together.

Stand, stand, stand, let’s stand together.
Stand, stand, stand, let’s stand together.

You can be a bystander,
It’s no big deal.
You can even be oustanding
In your field.
But it’ll be a one-night stand, understand,
If we don’t stand together.

Stand, stand, stand, let’s stand together.
Stand, stand, stand, let’s stand together.

Like a ship in the night,
Drifting alone,
It’ll take all hands
To bring it on home.

Stand, stand, stand, let’s stand together.
Stand, stand, stand, let’s stand together.

Let’s stand together, let’s stand together, together, stand!

Up With People!

It happened just this morning, I was walking down the street,
The milkman and the postman and policeman I did meet.
There in ev’ry window and ev’ry single door,
I recognized people I’d never noticed before.

Up! Up with people!
You meet ‘em wherever you go,
Up! Up with People!
They’re the best kind of folks we know.
If more people were for people,
All people ev’rywhere,
There’d be a lot less people to worry about,
And a lot more people who care.

People from the south-land and people from the north,
Like a mighty army, I saw them coming forth.
‘Twas a great reunion, befitting of a king!
Then I realized people were more important than things.

Up! Up with people!… etc.

Look For The People

Verse
I’ve been lucky to see the world
In a very special way,
Through the eyes of the folks I’ve met
Ev’rywhere I’ve stayed.
A city’s just a city
If you see the sights alone,
But there’s magic in the city lights
That shine in someone’s home.

Pre-Chorus
When I think of all the places that I’ve been,
I see the faces of my friends.
It’s the memories we’ve shared
That make someplace somewhere,
Make me want to go back,
I want to go back there.

Chorus
To look for the people,
They’re not really hard to find.
Look for the people,
They can make it shine.

Verse
A city’s just a city if you see the sights alone,
But there’s magic in the city lights
That shine in someone’s home.

Chorus
Look for the people,
They’re not really hard to find.
Look for the people,
They can make it shine,
Make it shine.

Let The River Flow

VERSE
There’s a spring back in the valley
In a grove of shady trees.
Its source is deep within the mountains,
It winds a course you cannot see.
And there flows a hidden river
Through every heart beneath the sky,
It’s the dream that seems to go on living,
It may run low but never dry.

CHORUS
It’s the power to keep going,
The power to turn around.
It’s the power to keep growing,
To see a light in the darkest night.
Let the river flow.

VERSE
Like the spring back in the valley,
The river never seems to end.
When tomorrow rises like a mountain,
The river will carry us again.

CHORUS
It’s the power of the laughter,
The power of the tears.
A stream of understanding,
It’s always run, and help us overcome.
Let the river flow.

VERSE
Like the spring back in the valley,
The river never seems to end.
When tomorrow rises like a mountain,
The river will carry us again.

CHORUS
It’s the power to keep going,
The power to turn around.
It’s the power to keep growing,
To see a light in the darkest night.
Let the river flow.

It’s the power of the laughter,
The power of the tears.
A stream of understanding,
It’ll always run, and help us overcome.
Let the river flow.

When tomorrow rises like a mountain,
Let the river flow, let the river flow.
