Up with People is committed to protecting the privacy of our users as you travel over our site. There are many locations where we will not collect any information. There are, however, some circumstances in which you may be requested or required to provide personal or non-personal information. Q: What information does Up with People collect?

A: To participate in certain activities and to obtain certain services offered on our web site, you will be asked to provide varying amounts of personal information. In some cases, you will be required to provide information. In other cases providing information is only voluntary. Each activity or service requires or requests different types of information in order for you to participate. Activities or services that require provision of personal information generally seek full name, email address, and phone number. Depending on the activity or service you desire, we also may request personal information, such as credit card and mailing address. In some cases we may request additional optional demographic information that is used for sales and marketing research. We try to limit our requests for personal information to only that information we believe is minimally necessary to achieve our stated collection purposes. Q: How does Up with People collect my information?

A: We collect your personal data in the following ways:

  • When you sign up for any our services or programs (e.g. our touring program, Camp Up with People, Up with People Jr., Impact programs, Experience programs, Up with People International Alumni Association programs)
  • When you register for one of our events (e.g. Up with People annual gala, Impact programs, Experience programs, Up with People International Alumni Association annual reunion, regional alumni gatherings)
  • When you purchase Up with People merchandise through our website
  • When you complete the ‘contact us’ form on our website
  • When you purchase tickets to an Up with People show through a third-party ticketing site

Q: How will Up with People use my information?

A: Personal information that is collected will primarily be used to: communicate organizational news and updates, alumni news and updates, regional updates, special events, blog posts, and facilitate purchases and gifts online. In addition to the primary purposes for which personal information is collected, we may use the personal information to contact you to confirm information related to a purchase order or to advise you if an item for purchase is on back order. We may also use your email address, phone number or address in our internal surveys to obtain feedback on our products, our web site, or on other aspects of our business that impact you as an Up with People customer.

Up with People adheres to a strict opt-in e-mail policy. Once you have opted-in, you may opt out at anytime. The opt-out procedure is discussed in detail below.

We do not sell, rent, share, or otherwise dispose of the personal information collected on this web site to third parties. We may, however, disclose your personal information when required by law or in the good-faith belief that such disclosure is necessary to comply with law. We use non-personal information such as demographic data to analyze and develop our marketing strategy or to determine how you found out about us, what your interests are regarding our services, and how to further improve our site and our service towards you. We also may share non-personal information with third parties.

We may occasionally hire other companies to provide limited services on our behalf, including packaging, mailing and delivering purchases, answering customer questions about products or services, sending postal mail and processing event registration. Q: How can I opt-out?

A: We provide you with the opportunity to opt-out from receiving updates on new products, newsletters, and other promotional materials. You can opt-out by sending an email, with the subject heading “Privacy Statement Opt-Out,” to info@upwithpeople.org In the email, you should request the opt-out option.


Q: Does Up with People’s privacy policy apply to linked websites?

A: Our Privacy Statement applies solely to information collection practice on upwithpeople.org. This web site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that we have no control or influence over the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave upwithpeople.org and to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that they visit.


Q: How does Up with People secure data transmission?

A: Please note that on upwithpeople.org there are forms that allow you to transmit credit card information in order to complete a purchase transaction. Any time we ask for a credit card number, we transmit that credit card number in an encrypted format. We use industry-standard, SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or from our online products or services, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems.


Q: Can I correct/update the information collected about me?

A: You have the right to correct or update the personal information collected about you on our website. To correct or update personal information, a user should send the change requests to info@upwithpeople.org


Q: Advertising and Analytics (Facebook Visitor Action Pixels)

A: Up with People uses tools such as Pixels, EventData, Custom Audiences, and other such mechanisms from Facebook Inc (1 Hacker Way, Menlo Park, CA 94025, USA, or, if you are located in the European Union, Facebook Ireland Ltd., 4 Grand Canal Square, Grand Canal Harbour, Dublin 2, Ireland (“Facebook”) on our website.

This allows us to track and understand user behavior after someone has visited the Up with People website while utilizing Facebook. What this does is to help us effectively manage the use of our Facebook advertisements for statistical and market research purposes. All data we collect as an organization remains completely anonymous. We do not ever see the personal data of each individual visitor or user. In order for proper transparency, we want to inform our website visitors that Facebook stores and process the data that has been collected, based upon our knowledge of the situation.

Facebook may link and use this information provided to your personal Facebook account and also use it for their company’s own promotional purposes, in accordance with Facebook’s Data Usage Policy which can be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/. You can allow Facebook and its partners to place ads on and off Facebook’s social media platform. This can be managed through your personal account under ‘Settings.’ Facebook may also use cookies, web beacons, and other storage technologies to collect or receive information from your websites and elsewhere on the internet and use that information to provide measurement services and target ads

In order to ensure the security of our website visitors, you as the visitor have the option to provide or decline consent upon initial visit to our website. A pop-up will display itself at the bottom of the page which provides the visitor with the option to allow or decline the collection and use of this information.

By clicking ‘Allow,’ you are are agreeing to allow the use of such information to be used by Up with People to collect this information about your use of the services and enable us to improve how these services work for our organization.

The legal basis for the use of this service is Art. 6 paragraph 1 sentence 1 letter f GDPR. You can object to the collection of your data by Facebook pixel, or to the use of your data for the purpose of displaying Facebook ads by visiting https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=ads through your own personal Facebook account.

Q: Advertising and Analytics (Google Analytics & Data Collection)

A: By using this website, you consent to the processing of data about you by Google LLC in the manner described in Google’s Privacy Policy – external site (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and for use in Google Analytics (further explained below). We use a tool called “Google Analytics” to collect information about use of this site.
