Heart’s Still Beating

Check the pulse of humanity;
Sometimes makes you despair.
Someone always being hurt somewhere,
And it isn’t fair.
But there are those moments
When we forget who we think we are,
With our stripes and our hammers,
Suns and crescents and stars.
We can’t find a barrier anywhere,
We can’t find the enemy we thought was there.
For a moment we can trust,
For a moment… it’s only us.

The heart’s still beating,
The fire’s still burning.
We may be feeling
That the wind is turning
And the pain is healing,
Though the mem’ries may be long.
The heart’s still beating,
The heart’s still beating,
The heart’s still beating strong.

Search the face of humanity;
Often brings you to tears.
Makes you wonder what we’re doing here,
And sometimes it isn’t clear.
Then there are those moments
When we can open up our minds.
We’re shoulder to shoulder
When a life is on the line,
And one more lost to hostility
Becomes unthinkable insanity.
Under layers of ancient dust,
We discover there’s only us.

The heart’s still beating… etc.
