By enrolling with Up with People for this year’s VOICES India tour, you will have the opportunity to experience eight cities, eight villages, 10 community organizations and over 35 dialects!

VOICES India provides an arts-based curriculum that participants will learn from alongside local youth within each city! You will get to immerse yourself in the arts and culture, all while learning community engagement and gaining cultural perspective.

In the same vein, experience the magic of helping others. With VOICES India, you will get to have hands-on service experience in villages and indigenous communities. By helping these communities, you will definitely feel the positive vibrations emanating from such experiences.

In align with the Up with People tradition, of course, you and your cast members will get to perform live in an Up with People show at each city, which will culminate into the Festival of Peace.

VOICES India participants will also experience cultural exchange through music, including classical dances, folk music, and even Indian-inspired Up with People beats! Known for its rich and diverse textures, Indian music combines melody, rhythm, and timbre to create unique blends of traditional and contemporary sounds!

You will also get to experience Indian art through crafts, cuisine, and cultural activities. Each region in India has its own distinctive art styles, food, and activities. Often times, religious motifs appear, such as mythological deities as humans or animals, and also features elaborate ornamentation. Indian food is described as spicy, flavorful, and aromatic, and also is diverse across regions.

With VOICES India, you will be immersed in cultural experiences. For example, get up close and personal with one of the world’s greatest cultural wonders: the Taj Mahal! Constructed nearly almost four hundred years ago, the Taj Mahal has become a symbol of India. It is known as the jewel of Islamic art in India and and attracts millions of visitors from all over the world each year. The site is representative of love, Allah (God) and prosperity.

You will also get to practice mindfulness at the Ashram a monastic community– where the cast participants will follow a routine centered on deep reflection and self-learning. At the Ashram, spiritual leaders practice in solitude and tranquility, cultivating a space where the energy needed for spiritual growth is sustained. Practicing mindfulness can be a gateway to improved confidence, creativity, and a greater enthusiasm for life

These are just a few of the extraordinary cultural encounters that VOICES India has to offer! All of these experiences will occur alongside youth and mentors from eight city University partners, community based organizations and our national partner United Way Delhi.
